History of:

(Short Version)

The many disastrous fires of the early days of Fall Creek lead the citizens to form a fire company in July, 1895.

On 25, July 1895 a meeting was called by the citizens of Falls Creek, at the Falls Creek school house, for the purpose of organizing a "fire company". First officers were D.B. Schaffner, President and 2nd Asst. Chief, J.J. Schnell, Secretary; W.S. Rishell, Treasurer; J.L. Jones, Fire Chief; and J.J. Lukehart, 1st Asst. Chief.

In august 1895 the name of the fire departmnet was adopted as "Fire Company No. 1 of Falls Creek" at a meeting held at D.B. Schaffners basement rooms. Age limits were set at not under 16 or over 50 years of age.

The first equipment bought were two chemical engines, a 40 gallon and a 55 gallon, for .00, hook and ladders, buckets, chemicals and 100' of hose;. A telephone line was connected to a fire whistle at the tannery.

On 23 November, 1904 the fire department was reorganized and a new constitution & by-laws were adopted for the "Friendship Hose Company # 1 of Falls Creek" with E.A Allshouse as President.
